Well, this was not my idea to develop something like that, but I found someone selling a script at Digitalpoint forums, but with less capabilities. It was genuinely a good idea, so I polished that idea and made a script for my own usage with more features.

Yahoo Answers basically allows you to post those questions & answers on your website but with a tag like “Powered by Yahoo Answers“. So that’s the only requirement to use this script. I read their API and developed something like this with features

1. Integration of my script with phpBB Forum software.
2. Script works with cron job, that means it automatically does everything without doing anything manually.
3. IT automatically look for the new topic posted and answers
4. You can specify the categories form where it will fetch those questions
5. Separate each section with different forum IDs (phpBB)
6. It opnly registers 1 new user and then picks randomly other (Yahoo) users from the database to answer those questions, this makes it look many users with more than 100-200 posts, not just 1 single post each time.
7. It automatically increases pageviews of that specific thread to make it look natural.
8. Admin can adjust the “signatures” to advertise your own website in those questions / answers.
9. User avatar is adjusted automatically on registeration picking one randomly from the avatars gallery.
10.  It adds the replying users to “Online Users” list, that makes it look like a more active forum.
11. It does not effect your exisitng community as it makes it look like more active
12. Staff member can separate those Yahoo threads and original threads posted by original users of your forum
13. STaff can see only the original threads in “New Posts”..

I developed this back in late 2007. But it is still working, I designed a custom forum for this test and its still adding loads of data there, you can take a look at this script live here

It was fun developing this scrip for testing Yahoo API at the same time. I think i achieved  what I wanted, but I am not using it on any of my websites. I am also planning to provide this for FREE on my blog.

phpBB Forum Skins

I actually designed many Invision Skins for swish-db.com but since Invision Powers Board fixes security bugs and asks to upgrade so quickly, I was fed up with adjusting skins all the time, so at the end I kept their default skin. And also I dont have previews of those skins, however the most recent 2 phpBB skins are below

The GimpTalk Skin (phpBB3)
Gimp is an Opensource software similar to Photoshop, you can visit this link to see the skin live : http://www.gimptalk.com/forum

Xitalk Forums phpBB 2

XiTalk is a revenue sharing community, that helps all the contributors earn money through Adsense at the same time. See the skin here : http://www.xitalk.com/

Flaxweb Company’s Website

It was really a cold day in London, as usual I got up at about 11:15 AM, cold wind blowing + drizzling, pheww, no one was at home to I had so do all myself, I think it was the only single egg left in the kitchen, so I fried and ate it, then a cup of juice and watched TV for 15 minutes, thats the story behind this new website. I was planning to establish a brand name other than “Swish-db Network“, by that time we had about 16 websites under it. I didnt have any name in my mind but I wanted to use the letter X between 3 letters on the left and 3 on its right, trust me I spent more than 4 hours to search for such a word, yeah I got help from dictionary but of no use, then googling and blah blah, finally I found the work “Flax” and “Web” and here you go the X goes between them “fla X web”, and Flaxweb was born.

Then the challenge was to design the logo, first I was trying to make good use of X as my original thought, then I changed my mind and thought why not to use something else that looks like X, wow, a good idea. I finally used a butterfly picture for X betwen fla and web. Here is what was my final output

Then I spent about 2-3 days to finalize all the design work and slicing pages. Currently Flaxweb is part of Clxint Technologies however it still has a good visual appearance. A few years back we shifted it to our corporate CMS tha twe use for our company’s websites.

well thats my story behind this design and company. Later, as we also develop Desktop Appliations we rebranded and changed the company’s name to “Clixint Technologies” and got status of a registered entity.
